CARPOMETACARPAL REPLACEMENT

I had Mr Ullah perform a Carpometacarpal replacement, left thumb joint titanium implant.

I was suffering from arthritis in the joint and even though this sounds like a minor issue it was having an adverse affect on my life, I was struggling to put weight on it, so Yoga and Weights at the gym were getting difficult to manage, painkillers didn’t seem to work at all, and I had Steroid injections into the joint which gave a little short term relief ( maybe 3 weeks respite ). Simple tasks like wringing out a cloth to clean my house were impossible, I couldn’t undo jars, had no strength in that hand and it ached almost constantly, affecting my sleep. Sounds melodramatic I know but it really got me down.

The surgery was quick, and I only had pain for a day or two afterwards which was manageable.

Recovery took a few weeks, and I had to avoid weights at the gym for 6 weeks, but I’m so happy with the results, I got my mobility in the joint back super quickly, had to remind myself to go easy so as not to undo Mr Ullah’s hard work.

I’m now about a year post op and can honestly say it feels as good as new, I can do everything I could do before the arthritis kicked in, I have no pain or issues with it at all, I’m so happy I had the surgery.

Mr Ullah knows his stuff and is very reassuring, I’m told it could last up to 10 years before needed any further treatment.

I’m more than happy to answer any questions anyone may have if they are thinking of having the surgery, regarding the process/recovery

Kindest regards

Claire

THUMB JOINT REPLACEMENT SURGERY

I write to provide feedback following my surgery to rectify my thumb which I described as “collapsed” (I am not a medical practitioner).

Prior to consulting with you, I was unable to use my right hand to hold objects, open jars etc.
I had a consultation with you at Spire Hospital, Oadby, Leicestershire. You explained the procedure, and informed me of recovery times, following X-rays.
On the 12th February 2024, you carried out surgery on my right thumb (in your letter to my GP, you explained, it was CMC joint replacement).

You had already explained that the type of operation was in surgical terms “relatively new”.

I made a full and complete recovery after approximately 3 months. I saw you at 3,6 & 12 months post operation for assessment.

I would like to thank you for your medical expertise, and support throughout the process.

If I knew anybody who was inflicted with such a condition, I would not hesitate to recommend arranging an appointment with you.

Kindest regards
P B

NUFFIELD HEALTH PATIENT COMMENTS

In early June 2023 I had an operation on my right hand 🫱 (thumb).  This was a new procedure where as I had an implant inserted into the bone . Quite ground breaking considering how painless it was the results were within a day I had movement, within a week I could clench a fist pain free . Now as a result I have more flexibility and pain free for the first time since I can remember. The one thing I had to remember was to walk before I could run as it’s easy to think you can do more than you should but Dr Ullah made sure through my physiotherapist I understood what I should and shouldn’t be doing he was there every step of the way . I am 12 weeks post opp now and have a new lease of life I would recommend this operation to anyone who has had to endured the pain and embarrassment of having to rely on others to do simple everyday task I can now do myself. I am back at work and able to complete my normal duties again . Thank you Dr Ullah for giving me my new bionic thumb Mrs V M

TESTIMONIAL FOR FLEXOR TENDON REPAIR

I had a flexor tendon repair on my dominant hand under the kind care of Mr Ullah. I cannot express my gratitude enough for the skilful and empathetic way in which I was cared for. Being a surgeon myself, I did my research to ensure I was seeing the best hand surgeon in the region. The pre-op assessment left me feeling very well informed regarding the procedure and aftercare. Mr Ullah also made excellent an recommendation for a superb hand therapist to work with post-operatively. Regular post-op reviews during my recovery were never an inconvenience to him and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome of my treatment. I genuinely believe Mr Ullah’s surgical talent has been pivotal to my progress and I have no hesitation in recommending him to any other patients seeking private hand surgery.

TESTIMONIAL FOR TENOLYSIS SURGERY

Mr Ullah carried out my Tenolysis surgery. I had to achieve the best possible result in order to return to my job which relies heavily on detailed work with my hands. Mr Ullah has a very calm, friendly and reassuring bedside manner. He was always prompt with communication via his secretary and I knew after meeting him and realising his vast experience in hand surgery that he was the surgeon I wanted to operate on me. My results have been incredible, and I am now able to return to work as planned. Thank you so much Mr Ullah for helping me and being so understanding during one of the most challenging times of my life – you were brilliant!

TRIGGER FINGER ON BOTH HANDS

In the past year Mr Ullah has treated me for trigger thumb on both hands (requiring surgery on the left one) and has performed a carpal tunnel release op on my left hand. Both surgical procedures have made an enormous difference and relieved all of my symptoms. I cannot recommend Mr Ullah highly enough for his professionalism and care, and he would be my consultant surgeon of choice should I need surgery on my right thumb in future.

MISDIAGNOSED ELSEWHERE - CYCLING ACCIDENT

After breaking my wrist in a cycling accident, the consultation, treatment and advice from Mr Ullah has been first class.  It was initially mis-diagnosed at a different hospital but a trip to see Mr Ullah – together with X-Ray and MRI scans – soon put that right.   He rapidly diagnosed the problem and put things on the right track to start the recovery process.  The service has been professional and thorough from start to finish – I had several questions over the course of the consultations and Mr Ullah was always happy to discuss, explaining the details and making recommendations.  I now have excellent flexibility in my wrist as my recovery continues to progress well.  Thoroughly recommended.

CARPAL TUNNEL SYNDROME

I was diagnosed with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and gradually the pain got worse.  I was advised by my GP that I needed an operation on my hand to release a trapped nerve.

I decided to see Mr. Ullah, who told me that I definitely did need an operation after I had nerve tests in my fingers.

I was rather apprehensive about having the operation but Mr Ullah went through the procedure for the operation clearly telling me what he would do. The way he explained it was very professional and it reassured me.

I went ahead with the operation, had no pain with the injection, local anaesthetic, or with the operation.  I was so pleased to get rid of the pain and very grateful to Mr.Ullah.  Do not be afraid to have the operation, you will have no regrets.

PAIN FREE & ENJOYING AN IMPROVED QUALITY OF LIFE

I was very daunted by the prospect of hand surgery but the results have been fantastic.  Due to the expertise of Mr Ullah I am pain free and enjoying an improved quality of life.

TRAPEZIECTOMY SURGERY

I was kept informed every step of the way before and after my trapeziectomy and always felt confident and happy about everything.

SUCCESSFUL CONCLUSION

I would like to take the time to thank Mr Ullah and his team for my ongoing treatment and successful conclusion.

RECOMMENDATION

I would recommend anyone considering treatment to go ahead as my personal experience has been outstanding.

FRACTURE OF WRIST THAT HAD NOT HEALED PROPERLY

I was referred to Mr Ullah from a colleague in the NHS  regarding a private consultation, and thank goodness for this. I had a fracture of my wrist that had not healed  properly which was causing me considerable pain and impacting on my every day and work capacity,

Mr Ullah advised me of what was  needed in terms of surgical intervention. He advised me that he would resolve the issue regarding my wrist and he did just that.

I have no hesitation  in recommending him if you are considering private surgical intervention. In my option he went above and beyond my expectations.

OSTEOARTHRITIS AND CONSTANT PAIN

As a result of having Osteoarthritis I was suffering from constant pain in my thumb joint. Mr Ullah helped me by administering steroid injections but ultimately it was decided that surgery was necessary.

FIRST CLASS TREATMENT

I have received first class treatment with wonderful results.
